The look of the engineering print is so much better than I thought it would be. But I thought it was nice of them to ask! I declined since I was using the engineering print as more of a “template” to get the size and space worked out with the frame before shelling out the big bucks on a higher quality photo. Office Max did call and ask if I wanted them to print the photo using a photo printer and photo paper. Then I traced around the outside edge of the mat with a pencil.Īll that was left to do was cut on that pencil line. I placed the mat on the photo moved it until I had her face inside one of the rectangles. That’s why I ordered the print in a size way bigger than the size of the frame. Cost: $3.90īecause I wanted my daughter’s face to fall within one of the “panes” of the mat, I needed enough “play” room with the photograph. I went online to Office Max and ordered a black and white engineering print and it was ready in about an hour. I intentionally made the print bigger than I needed.

I made sure to check Constrain Proportion and the width became 36″.

I opened the photo in Photo Shop Elements and changed the height of the photo to 24″. I knew I needed to use a landscape oriented photo since I wanted to hang the frame horizontally versus vertically. Photos enlarged to the size I needed can be fairly pricey so I had the photo printed as a black and white engineering print at my local Office Max on 27# paper.įirst I chose the photo that I wanted to use. The frame is fairly large (12″ x 30″) so I would need a big photo. I like that it has the appearance of looking through an 8-pane window.

Here’s a peek at one of the projects I’ll be demonstrating: How to Use One Photo in a Collage Frame.Įven though the ORKENED frame is designed to hold eight photos, I thought it would be fun to try something different. There will be demonstrations, food samplings, drawings for prizes and freebies! I’ll be there demonstrating creative ways to use picture frames. Tonight I’m starting another one for some of the glass found at the One Twenty Main house.I am thrilled to be participating in the BYOF (bring your friend) Event at the Ikea store in Baltimore, Maryland this Saturday. I think it does need a small plaque or something saying “glass excavated at the 61 Park Farmhouse” just so our guests will know that it all came from the property. I might use a chain to hang it in front of a window: I am really pleased at the outcome! I can’t wait to find a place for it at the Sixty One Park Farmhouse. I just placed a small bead of glue on each contact point of each piece of glass. I only used about 1/2 a tube for the entire window. One option was to pour a resin onto the window to adhere all of the glass but I didn’t want to lose the clarity of the glass or any of the embossed labels so I decided to glue each piece individually using e6000 industrial glue: Just make sure to wear safety glasses! Adhering Glass to the Window: You can also put entire bottles underneath a towel and break them apart. I just put a towel down on the ground and carefully used a hammer to chip pieces away. There were a few pieces of glass that were too large or had pieces on them that stuck out too far.

Next I laid out enough glass to cover one of the windows in an interesting collage layout:

I took some old windows and cleaned up the glass and applied a fresh coat of paint:

There were only one or two pieces that I could not get clean! As I started to lay out the glass I thought these pieces would make a beautiful stained glass window so I decided to try to piece together a simple version of my own. The next resort was to carefully scrub with a pumice stone. After soaking most were bright and clear after a good rinse:Īny really stubborn stains I removed with a paste of Bon Amiand a sturdy toothbrush. Once the outer layer of mud was removed I made a mixture of Borax, Windex concentrate and water and let the pieces soak for a few days. To clean the pieces I soaked them in a bucket of water overnight to remove any caked mud. Most of the glass I collected had been underground for so long that it was covered in dirt and mineral deposits. Many of the pieces have beautiful embossed history on them, like this piece of a soda bottle that reads “Hickory, NC”:Į6000 Adhesive Collecting and Cleaning Old Glass: The variety of glass is really amazing and the colors are beautiful: I did the same thing for the Sixty One Park Farmhouse. Every time it rains something else is uncovered and I have so far collected every piece to see if I can piece anything back together. I’ve found perfume bottles, milk glass cold cream bottles, old whisky bottles….many intact but also just endless amounts of broken glass. Since we started excavating at our One Twenty Main property I’ve been collecting the most amazing glassware and glass fragments.
